Here's how I'm using free AI tools to build a web design freelancing business

I’ve always considered myself an entrepreneurial person, and the recent AI boom has reignited that startup mindset.

Continuing from of some websites I built for my parents businesses, I decided to begin marketing my services to other small business owners.

Here are some ways I'm leveraging AI tools for web-design freelancing and other projects.

AI Tools for Web Design

  1. Leverage no-code website building platforms like Squarespace and Carrd.co to build the websites

    1. Watch YouTube tutorials to learn how to use more obscure features on the website building platforms

    2. Use Hostinger.com for hosting solutions - this one is not AI per se but I found it to be best value option for the types of sites I’m building

  2. Leverage ChatGPT and copy.ai to write the website copy and then tune the wording based on client feedback

  3. Use Canva.com for graphic design and even use AI algorithms for image editing, templates, and design recommendations

    1. Use pexels.com for free-to-use photography when client business photos are not available or the client is non-local

These tools and processes make it much easier to quickly build, host, and update websites based on customer needs. This allows me to focus on the more creative aspects of the business such as logo design, marketing, client management, etc.

AI Freelancing Use Cases

Website Copy

The main use case I’ve found for ChatGPT in web design has been writing copy (verbiage) for the websites. Here’s a prompt example:

Although it’s helpful to use ChatGPT to write some of the website copy, it’s important to walk through the verbiage with customers live to review any potentially inaccurate statements and ensure clients are comfortable with the language.

Business Development

In addition to writing copy, I’m leveraging ChatGPT to ideate on how to build my business, including finding resources to learn skills I can then provide to potential customers.

For Example:

Presentation Outlines

AI can also be helpful in generating outlines of presentations which can then be populated with the business owner & consultant’s knowledge of the business. Below is an example of an outline I generated for a contracting company seeking investment:

Conclusion

While it’ll likely be a while before AI completely replaces humans for these kinds of jobs, humans who are able to leverage AI tools will find themselves able to work faster and more efficiently than their non-AI fluent counterparts.

I also plan to write about personal finance and income stream generation / small business consulting in general.
